Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islanders at NAB Australia

A note on terminology
The terms "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander", “First Nations peoples” and "Indigenous peoples" are used in this document. By intent, these terms refer to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples of Australia. These terms, however, do not reflect the diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
‘Indigenous’ and ‘Aboriginal’ are broad terms imposed on First Australians without consultation.
NAB acknowledges that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples prefer to be known by other names.
Why is this important?
We leverage our strength as a bank and one of Australia’s largest employers, to provide work opportunities for Australians and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people because we know how important it is to have workforce that is representative of the customers we serve.
What do we do?
We offer a range of initiatives including school-based and adult traineeships, internships and general recruitment for First Nations Australians. Once inside NAB, all colleagues are offered learning and development opportunities, flexible work options, cultural and religious leave and a work environment where diversity is values and inclusion is a priority.
We’ve invested in growing the pipeline of Indigenous employment
We provide school-based traineeships for students in Year 10-12 and adult traineeships for individuals interested in a career at NAB. During the traineeship, trainees complete a Certificate II or III in Business, receive on-the- job experience at our branches and head offices around the country; and receive mentoring from our employees and external partners.
As part of our 2022-2023 Interim Reconciliation Action Plan (PDF, 17MB), we are helping create real outcomes and positive change in partnership with First Nations peoples, organisations, and communities.
We’ve provided internships to university students
Internships are for university students seeking a career in financial services. Internships are managed in partnership with CareerTrackers and are designed to build each student’s confidence, skills and abilities in the workforce as well as exposure to a corporate working environment.
Our Indigenous employment programs are a pathway to continuous employment.
We’re looking to open more doors
We are always seeking great candidates interested in joining NAB. If you’re interested in joining us, apply now or join our First Nations EOI talent pool.
We’re improving cultural awareness across the business
We provide a range of opportunities for our people to lift their understanding and appreciation for First Nations cultures and actively get involved in cultural awareness and celebration initiatives. This includes cross cultural training, specialist experiences for our senior executives, employee secondments to the Kimberley region WA and skilled volunteering with Aboriginal owned and operated businesses.
