As part of the actuarial team, you will have the opportunity to develop whilst learning from a group of talented actuaries and analysts both within the UK team and throughout the wider Group. Before you begin, you’ll be put in touch with a buddy who can help support you with any questions you may have about starting.
Within the General Insurance business there are two streams:
Actuarial reserving team:
You’ll be calculating the expected level of future claims.
By applying statistical techniques, analysing trends including experience against expectations, communicating business insight and estimating capital requirements, you’ll become a valuable member of the reserving function
Actuarial pricing team:
You’ll help to set the prices for the insurance policies the firm sells by calculating which risk characteristics lead to higher or lower expected claims costs.
As part of this, you’ll find yourself analysing profitability, improving approaches to customer segmentation, and developing market-leading pricing technology
About you
What you’ll need:
Although Zurich Insurance has a hybrid workforce, you should be within a commutable distance of the office workplace stated in this advert
You’ll need strong mathematical skills, as an analytical approach and a high level of numerical aptitude are essential
The ability to learn new technical skills, be comfortable with large amounts of data or information, and have an eye for detail
Excellent teamwork, communication and interpersonal skills
The motivation to carry on studying towards a professional qualification alongside maintaining office performance
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to build strong working relationships
Entry Requirements:
A minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a STEM subject or Economics - predicted or recently achieved (within the last three years).
A minimum C/4 grade in both English and Maths at GCSE level (or equivalent).
A minimum Maths A grade at A-level
At least 128 UCAS points from 3 A-Level subjects (or equivalent)
You must have an indefinite, full right to work and reside in the UK.
The firm cannot accept applications from those who require sponsorship to work in the UK.
You must have resided in the UK for a minimum of three consecutive years.

As you gain experience, rotations between the two streams are possible based on your appetite. Along with working alongside qualified actuaries to give you the required professional development to become a qualified actuary, you can also look forward to a comprehensive support programme. There is also an internal ‘Actuarial Academy’ programme which supplements the graduate programme and actuarial exams, aimed at broadening your actuarial skills and industry knowledge with shadowing opportunities, as well as professional development, to give you all the support you need to be a successful actuary. They run a mentoring scheme to help guide you through your early experiences and give you advice on structuring your exam and revision time.
