Your Role

This Opportunity:

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the analysis, development, and design of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Full-Time Early Career Water Resources Engineer for their San Diego, CA office. Be involved in projects with their Water Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets their client's objectives and solves their challenges.  

Your Impact:

  • Under general supervision, collect and compile environmental data from samples of water, sludge, and other matrices for analysis.
  • Study water cycles and directions in which water flows to determine the influence of weather and other environmental forces.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
  • Assist with performing basic professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply/quality/management, stormwater facilities, irrigation facilities, culverts, hydrology, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics, floodplain modeling/mapping, hydrologic/hydraulic modeling, canal development,  river/stream/habitat restoration and fish passage, waste disposal, pollution control and treatment, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of water resources. 
  • Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site, and providing entry-level technical assistance on various environmental issues. 
  • Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebooks.
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, the maintenance of sample collection, location data, statistical documentation, and logbooks.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

About You

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, with a focus in Water Resources or a closely related discipline.
  • 0 to 1 years of relevant post-education experience. 
  • Excellent research skills with an analytical mindset.
  • Familiarity with the concepts of professional water resources engineering work relating to water supply, quality, management, and treatment for various end uses – recreationally, commercially, and/or industrially.  
  • Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.

Compensation & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $56,300 - $87,120 annually. If you join as a full-time employee, you may get the following benefits:
