Job description:
WSP is currently seeking a dynamic and innovative Co-op student or structural intern to join their Structural Engineering Group, located in their Winnipeg office. This position will have the opportunity of working with a multi-disciplinary team to develop creative design solutions at various stages in a project and thrive in a dynamic and proactive learning environment.
What you can expect to do here:
Perform calculations and assessments for various structures, under the supervision of a Senior Engineer.
Perform such calculations using current design software and advanced finite element modelling underpinned by a sound understanding of basic principles.
Be curious to explore and help advance the concepts of design automation.
Respond to client requests as needed to help further their business.
Write technical reports when required.
Assist in the coordination of project documentation under the supervision of the project manager.
Contribute to the preparation of detailed drawings, sections and standard details, and ensure quality adherence.
Review contract documents, and shop drawings and respond to contractor inquiries.
Conduct field reviews and condition assessments.
High focus on the ability to develop creative solutions in complex environments in response to unexpected site and project challenges at short notice and in collaboration with the project team.
Occasional travel for site assessments and site support.
Training & development
During the internship, developed skills in advanced design software, finite element modelling, and creative problem-solving in complex environments, while gaining experience in technical report writing, project documentation, and client interaction.

Developing knowledge of the National Building Code, as well as other applicable codes and standards.

Strength in any of the following software – ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, RAM and/or Robot.
