Your role

Internship program overview

The Whitney’s Academic Year Internship program offers a semester-long paid internship for undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited academic program. The internship is hybrid, with some onsite work. For Fall 2024, interns commit between 16–21 hours per week over 10–12 weeks for a total of 200 hours. Interns are assigned to a specific department at the Museum for the duration of the internship.

The Whitney seeks a Digital Content intern for the Fall 2024 semester.

Expected Projects & Assignments

  • Aid department in all aspects of content production for video, web, and social.
  • Pitch, plan, and create short-form videos for social media.
  • Participate in department planning for upcoming exhibitions.
  • Do archival and historical research for documentary-style video projects.
  • Assist with live streaming, interview transcription, and asset management.

Training & development

Provided Training

  • Introduction to project management software, digital content production, and basic museum processes.
  • Approaches to digital content and strategy.
  • Media production from inception to completion.

Outcomes

  • Learn to create impactful content that fulfils Whitney’s mission and reaches audiences both online and at the Museum.
  • Production management and communication skills.
  • Experience as an effective member of a small team doing big things.

Salary & benefits

Interns will be paid a stipend of $3000.

About you

Skills & Qualifications

  • Interest and previous experience with video and audio production.
  • Ability to learn new skills quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong, clear communication skills and superb attention to detail.
  • Passion for contemporary culture and the visual arts.
  • Experience using a CMS or digital publishing tool (such as WordPress).
  • Interest in web accessibility.
  • Familiarity with data analytics or statistics is useful, but not required.
  • Undergraduates and graduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible.
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible.
  • While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply.
  • Previous museum experience is not required.
