Your role

What you will do:

The purpose of this position is to assist the Purchasing department with assignments specific to the strategic sourcing (commodity) function.

Duration:

  • The assignment will begin in August 2024 and continue through August 2026.
  • On mutual agreement, the assignment may continue into the next term on a part-time basis through the two-year time frame.

The function focuses on the following business areas:

  • Sub-commodity strategy development and alignment with stakeholders.
  • Sub commodity strategy communication and approvals including implementation road map.
  • Share the best practices across commodities and products.
  • Manage material productivity pipeline aligned with business needs.
  • Project targets (Quality, Delivery, Cost).
  • Product cost road map and material productivity pipeline development.
  • Supplier risk management including agreements sign-off to secure the business.
  • Early Supplier Involvement and supplier innovation proposal (process and products).
  • Raw material forecast and actual implementations.
  • Lead Business Review Meetings with suppliers specific to business/projects/technology.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Working with strategic sourcing/commodity managers to support data management. Activities such as data validation, and data integrity present improvement areas.
  • Learn and develop a “strategy development process” under the guidance of the commodity manager.
  • RFQ (Request for Quotation)/order management/Part follow-up for key projects.
  • Entry-level Purchasing activities with task-oriented assignments guided by commodity managers.
  • General assistance Purchasing Strategic Sourcing team on a need basis.
  • Support Project managers for project specifics/internal and external follow-ups.
  • Daily networking and learning opportunities with broad exposure to cross-functional stakeholders to understand critical business needs and support.
  • Interface both verbally and in written format with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Act as a backup of purchasing buyers on a need basis.

About you

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Student must be currently enrolled and pursuing a degree, preferably in Supply Chain or Business Management (other degrees will also be considered), at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours before the start of the internship.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75

The compensation for the role will range from $16.00 to $46.00 per hour.
