Your role

They are currently looking for students to work with their production teams as interns. You should be prepared to work in a challenging environment, gaining experience and knowledge in various aspects of the VPS Volvo Production System.

As a valued member of their team within GTO, you will have the opportunity to work directly on production focusing on increasing efficiency and quality while utilizing your engineering education and continuous improvement mindset. GTO’s goal is to contribute to your development, as well as provide an opportunity to work in a business environment within the manufacturing industry. 

What you will do:

Circular Operations and Solutions is the truck industrial entity within the Volvo Group Trucks Operations (GTO) responsible for Truck manufacturing, including Cab & Vehicle Assembly, Powertrain Production, Logistics Services, Parts Distribution and Remanufacturing. Middletown’s group function is Powertrain Production.

Position responsibilities:

  • Assist in identifying opportunities for process improvements and implementing solutions.
  • Help facilitate continuous improvement through data analysis and indicator management.
  • Assist in the development of skills management training.
  • Help with the organization of the VPS SharePoint.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and drive project execution
  • Document processes, workflows, and project outcomes
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions on continuous improvement and digitalization

About you

Minimum education requirements: 

  • Applicant must be currently enrolled and pursuing a business administration, industrial engineering, or related degree at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies before the start of the internship. 
  • Fall Interns may work up to 30 hours per week and must be enrolled as full-time students.
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75. 

Critical competencies:

  • Strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerBi, PowerPoint).
  • Background in Lean methodology.
  • Data analytics and visualization.

Personal competencies:

  • Attention to Detail: Provide accurate data and reports that are pertinent to the team’s tasks.
  • Teamwork: Building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve group goals and outcomes.
  • Communication: Listen effectively, transmit information accurately and understandably, and actively seek feedback from experienced engineers, project managers, etc.
  • Dependability/Reliability: Follow through on commitments, timely delivery on projects, assigned tasks, etc.
  • Flexibility: Willing to perform a wide range of tasks, positive responses to changes in direction and priorities, and acceptance of new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.

Compensation & benefits 

The compensation for the role will range from $16.00 to $46.00 per hour.

During this internship; by applied what was learned during coursework (theory, skill development, professionalism) to the working world. Students will be provided with extensive hands-on experience in their field of study. The intern will work on important and innovative projects alongside their experienced staff and engineers.
