Your role

What you will do:

  • As a Co-op - CAE Structural Analysis, you will be primarily responsible for evaluating the strength and durability of various components and sub-systems of heavy-duty trucks and running complete vehicle simulations to ensure durability and fatigue requirements for North American products are met.
  • You will work closely with various engineering teams to coordinate and lead complex simulation tasks and also interface directly with the testing group to develop confidence and improve the correlation between analysis and physical verification to create accurate digital twin models.
  • In addition, you will act as a technical leader in coordinating and driving design changes with various functional stakeholders. 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct CAE analysis of components, sub-systems, and complete vehicle simulations to optimize the strength and durability of components for Volvo and Mack Trucks
  • Introduce creative techniques and methodologies to create digital twin virtual models integrating virtual reality into design and verification methods 
  • Perform validation studies comparing CAE results to experimental data to improve current methodologies and drive digital twin implementation
  • Work with engineering, testing, and project teams to plan, develop, and coordinate test plans, provide instrumentation roadmaps, and interpret test data to make design recommendations
  • Synthesize information from a variety of resources (simulation/test results, technical requirements, historical data, etc.) identify areas of improvement for various functional aspects of heavy-duty trucks, and form actionable technical recommendations for stakeholders across the engineering organization
  • Champion quality and effectiveness of best practices, tools, and methods
  • Own the analysis until there is an acceptable outcome from all project stakeholders
  • Work cooperatively with cross-functional teams to translate and interpret durability, crash, and NVH feature demands into tangible design targets
  • Communicate results effectively to project and feature leaders across the organization

  • In addition, the candidate will champion the improvement of CAE methodology for increased accuracy and efficiency of durability models that will drive digital twin implementation.

Required:

  • Must be enrolled and pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or related program at an accredited school and have completed 30 semester hours of undergraduate studies. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75.  
  • Co-ops are not enrolled in academic courses during their co-op rotation and may work up to 40 hours per week

Compensation & benefits

For all intern and co-op positions, the hourly range is set at $16.00 - $46.00.
