This role will be based on the university campus, with scope for it to be undertaken in a hybrid manner. The University Of Leeds is also open to discussing flexible working arrangements.
Overview of the role
As a Student Intern for Leeds University Library Galleries, you’ll be involved in planning, promoting, delivering and evaluating Galleries events and engagement offers for students and/or community groups at the University of Leeds using your own knowledge and experience to help others.
You’ll help raise awareness of the Galleries, collections and activities amongst students on campus and help explore the possibility of creating a new Student Union society. The feedback you gather as part of this process will help inform the service development.
Main duties and responsibilities
As a Galleries Student Intern, your main duties will include:
Assist the Galleries Learning and Engagement Team in the planning, preparation and delivery of Galleries activities offered for students.
Help collate, analyse and communicate feedback on the Galleries student targeted activities.
Assist in the facilitating of a student volunteer programme.
Liaising with other areas of the University to create networks for marketing and partnership with student audiences.
Assisting the Galleries marketing team in online communications such as social media posts and e-news content.
Reporting to wider Library staff on the ambassador role and outcomes from your project.
Investigate the process and possibility of forming a ‘Galleries’ Student Union Society and, if viable, support the Galleries team to set this up.

Qualifications and skills
Essential
Studying at the University of Leeds for the duration of the post
Experience or good understanding of working in a public service environment eg. library, museum or gallery, retail, catering
Excellent interpersonal skills; able to work well in a team as well as independently
Strong communication skills; able to communicate with a variety of people for different purposes both verbally and written
Strong administrative and organisation skills with proven ability to work under pressure to prioritise, schedule and balance workloads to meet set deadlines
Confidence in using IT, including social media
Desirable
Experience or good understanding of working in museums, galleries, heritage sites or informal learning environments (like holiday clubs, peer mentoring or creative workshops)
Experience in delivering public events
Enthusiasm for museums, galleries or heritage
Key attributes
Able to work well in a team but also to work independently with minimal supervision
A creative, proactive and flexible approach, able to respond to changing priorities in a busy environment, and solve problems within given boundaries and procedures
Compensation & benefits
Salary: Grade 3 (£12.46 to £13.02 per hour depending on experience)
