Your role

Role overview:

  • In the planning team, you'll have the chance to work alongside a dedicated team of planners, ecologists, and landscape architects, who interact across the planning system.
  • Dealing with local plan consultations, consultations regarding individual development proposals, providing planning advice to the wider business, and working alongside the engineers to develop planning applications for the capital program.

Training & development

You will have the dedicated training and support to help you develop and reach your potential. During your 12-month placement, under the guidance of your mentor and manager, you will gain an overview of the type of work undertaken, moving around the team to gain experience in all relevant aspects. This will give you good working experience with the planning and regulatory system and will also include site visits to see the type of projects the firm designs and constructs.

About you

What United Utilities is looking for:

  • United Utilities is looking for undergraduate Town Planners/Environmental Planners in their penultimate year of studying a Town Planning or Geography degree (or similar).
  • The successful applicant will have an interest in planning and an awareness of the water industry.

To apply you need to:

  • Have researched and know about United Utilities' activities.
  • Be working towards at least a 2:2 in a Town Planning/Geography degree (or similar).
  • Have varied technical knowledge, not only through academic experience but also through social and professional experience.
  • Have a strong foundation at A-level.
  • Have good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and GIS.
  • Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, possessing ambition and drive.
  • Possesses good written, presentation, and interpersonal skills and can communicate and influence across all levels.
  • Be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to set deadlines, as well as being able to prioritize your time.
