United Utilities is the largest water-focused utility company in the UK that regulates water and wastewater management. United Utilities is involved in the supply and provision of billions of liters of drinking water and recycled wastewater to the residents in North West England. The utility company also has an electricity distribution subsidiary.
Your role
Role overview:
In the commercial indirect and networks department, the successful students will join a large team working and supporting procurement activities including tendering and sourcing.
You will have the opportunity to develop skills in several areas including service & construction delivery contracts, IT & OT, professional services and chemicals, contract/supply chain management, regulatory procurement, and purchase-to-pay.
You will engage with operational and senior stakeholders; and support the alignment of business strategy and policy to deliver category plans.
You will benefit from the shared knowledge within the commercial team and the expertise of working with colleagues across the wider commercial delivery team including capital delivery and engineering, whilst also developing your specialist skills and providing a valuable contribution to the team.
During your 3-month intern summer placement, you may also be allowed to visit some of the sites.
You'll see how the firm carefully produces clean safe drinking water and how they treat wastewater to release it safely back into the environment.
Training & development
During your 3 month Internship, you will have the dedicated training and support to help you develop and reach your potential. You gain an understanding of the projects being undertaken by United Utilities and the methods used to deliver them. Specific tasks may be assigned during this time. You will be accountable for delivering these with the support of commercial managers.

United Utilities is looking for undergraduates studying a Commercial or Supply Chain qualification who have completed as a minimum first year of a degree or equivalent.

Have researched and know about Commercial or Supply Chain activities.
Be working towards a Commercial or Supply Chain degree or a related course.
Have good computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel.
Be motivated and enthusiastic, an excellent team player, processing ambition and drive.
Process good written and interpersonal skills and can communicate and influence across all levels.
Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
Be able to be comfortable working flexibly across a range of tasks and activities to deadlines as well as being able to prioritise your time.
