Your role

Summary:

The position serves as a Student Trainee (Information Technology) in the DMA Pathways intern program and is concurrently enrolled at an accredited college/university to complete the academic curriculum required for a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Information Technology or a closely related field. The intern program allows a student to receive work experience which is directly related to the student's academic program and career goals.

Duties:

The incumbent will serve in a Student Trainee (Information Technology) developmental capacity and receive on-the-job training in principles, concepts, and work processes to specialize in Information Technology Management fields of study.

  • Assignments build on prior training to expand the student's understanding of the organization, the programs, policies and objectives of the agency.
  • Assignments will provide experience in the application of principles, procedures, and work methods to actual routine operating situations.
  • Assignments are oriented toward the concepts of Information Technology, Business Information Systems and Project Management from a curriculum relationship standpoint and are integrated with overall Information Management concepts and techniques following the functional setting of the training/work.
  • Assignments are designed to provide the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge and actual work experience in the field of Information Technology.
  • The incumbent will receive instructions on the purpose, scope and limitations of assignments as well as expected deadlines and priorities.

Training & development

Through this internship, the student will develop expertise in Information Technology Management, including principles, procedures, and project management within the agency's context, fostering a deep understanding of organizational objectives and policies in real-world Information Technology applications.

Qualifications:

GS-3 Level Qualifications: Successful completion of one academic year of post-high school education. (One academic year of undergraduate education is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in an accredited college or university).

Management prefers students currently enrolled in the following degree programs, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Mathematics or closely related fields, OR a degree program that at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following fields, IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and Mathematics.

Education:

  • You must provide transcripts or other documentation to support your educational claims.
  • Unofficial transcripts are acceptable at the time of application.
  • All materials must be submitted by the closing date of the announcement.


Graduate Education:

One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

  • Transcripts must state major, earned credit hours, and cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and must include school and student identification on them or they will NOT be considered.
  • This position is in the excepted service.
  • Must submit current and future transcripts as proof of enrollment.
