Duties and responsibilities of French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, Arabic, and English:

Org. Setting and Reporting:

  • This internship position is located in the French Verbatim Reporting Section, Meetings and Publishing Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in New York.
  • The internship is for two (2) months, with a possibility of extension, subject to the needs of the Department.
  • The internship is Unpaid and full-time.
  • Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of the Chief of the Verbatim Reporting Section/Service or the internship supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Candidates are encouraged to highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their application.
  • This internship may be discharged in person or remotely.

Interns Languages (French) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translating into French, which must be the candidate’s main language, verbatim records of meetings from English for training and other purposes and subject to review.
  • Transcribing or reviewing French transcriptions.
  • Assisting with testing of technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Interns Languages (Spanish) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translating into Spanish, which must be the candidate’s main language, verbatim records of meetings from English for training and other purposes and subject to review.
  • Transcribing or reviewing Spanish transcriptions.
  • Assisting with testing of technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Interns Languages (Russian) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translate verbatim records of meetings from English to Russian for training and review purposes.
  • Transcribe or review Russian transcriptions.
  • Assist with testing technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Interns Languages (Chinese) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translate verbatim records of meetings from English to Chinese for training and review purposes.
  • Transcribe or review Chinese transcriptions.
  • Assist with testing technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Interns Languages (Arabic) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translate verbatim records of meetings from English to Arabic for training and review purposes.
  • Transcribe or review Arabic transcriptions.
  • Assist with testing technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Interns Languages (English) will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Translate verbatim records of meetings from any of the official languages to English for training and review purposes.
  • Transcribe or review transcriptions.
  • Assist with testing technologies, including speech-to-text.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

About you

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme.
  • Your training, education, advanced coursework, or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.
  • Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master or PhD. Programme.

Education:

  • Applicants at the time of the application must meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school program (second university degree, equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
    • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Work Experience:

  • No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Program.
  • Your training, education, advanced coursework or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

  • The official languages of the United Nations are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish.

Intern Specific text

The United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.

UN internship will not automatically lead to a job with the UN. In that case, they ask you to let at least six months pass after the end of your internship before you submit your application and ensure that you fulfil not only the educational but also the work experience requirements that are outlined in each job opening.
