The New York Liaison Office is an important office supporting UN-Habitat, HQ in Nairobi and facilitating all the needs of intergovernmental and interagency affairs at the UN Secretariat to meet the mandate of UN-Habitat.
Interns are to report to their supervisor for their administrative-related matters as well as to the managers who will directly assign their tasks and oversee their accomplishments.
The intern will have the opportunity to learn and work in a very dynamic environment.
The intern will be able to contribute to in-person/virtual activities, including Webinars and online meetings.
The intern will also engage collaboratively in research and analysis as well as in drafting and reviewing documents on several topics as well as engaging with stakeholders from different sectors and parts of the world.
Provision of general virtual office support such as processing correspondence; maintaining online files and records in Sharepoint; and taking meeting minutes for events.
Assisting with the organization events and training sessions, supporting with the preparation of agendas, co-drafting background materials, and meeting reports, providing technical support to the moderator during the virtual event, supporting outreach, preparing summaries, reviewing participants lists and preparing documents to be posted online.
Supporting the research for the preparation of papers and reports related to the work of the office through the collection of data from multiple resources, assisting in reviewing and analyzing data from multiple resources, researching and organizing information and assisting with analyzing trends.
Supporting staff with stakeholder engagement programme and partnerships programme and participating in virtual and live UN Headquarters events, as appropriate.
Supporting staff with outreach engagement, including communications, social media, and website content updates.
Duration: 3 months with possible extension up to 6 months.
About you
Qualifications/Special Skills:
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent),
Have graduated with Bachelor's degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent.
Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Preferred areas of study: MBA, 4th Year Undergraduate, graduate students and other further studies on International relations, social science, urban planning, urban design, Architectural study and similar subjects.
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor's or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
Languages:
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

The United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
