Your role

About the Team:

The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in China, including all the UN entities present. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various inter-agency working mechanisms, including theme groups.

Key functions of the RCO include:

  • Strategic analysis, planning, and positioning of the Country Team
  • Preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF)
  • Support to joint UN programming and operations management
  • Policy guidance
  • Joint advocacy and communications to enhance UN coherence
  • Improve the overall program impact of the UN System in China

Job Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not limited to:

Human Resources:

  • Provide support to staff members' onboarding and separation process
  • Provide support to recruitment processes regarding intern recruitment, UNV recruitment, and consultant recruitment Provide support in managing HR Files
  • Provide support to HR actions in the UMOJA system
  • Provide support on proceeding with the payments to consultants

Administration:

  • Provide support to staff members on reimbursement
  • Provide support to Admin actions in the Unite/UMOJA system
  • Provide support on inventory and asset management
  • Provide support on logistic and operational support regarding events and conferences

Procurement:

  • Provide support on market research and the draft analysis report
  • Provide support on drafting the evaluation report Provide support on proceed the payments to vendors Provide support on the quality check and acceptance procedure

Finance:

  • Provide support on petty cash management
  • Provide support in preparing the expenditure report and budget report

About you

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher)
  • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent)
  • Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

Languages:

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required for the internship.

Note:

  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.

Training & development

The duration of this internship is six months. Interns work five days per week (40 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned. Under the overall guidance of the Administrative Assistant, the internship will provide the successful candidate with a unique opportunity to learn about how the UN system operates at the country level.

Among others, the intern will:

  • Actively support the daily operations of the office
  • Have hands-on experience with the operational policies and procedures in the fields of Human Resources, Administration, Finance, and Procurement
  • Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the intern's assigned office as well as the internship period

Your internship will not automatically lead to a job with the UN, but with the experience you have acquired during your time as an intern, you might be interested in applying for General Service or consultancy positions.
