Position Overview:

The HR Project Management Office at United Airlines partners with internal Human Resources and various Operational organizations on prioritized initiatives focused on enabling United’s growth strategy. The HR PMO leads a portfolio of initiatives for Airport Operations, Tech Ops, Global Learning, HR and are centered around solutioning employee challenges through improvements in technology and processes, and procedures. Proofs of concept, case evaluations, full-scale project management, and implementation fall within the scope of the team’s roles and responsibilities.

This position offers students an opportunity to work on high-visibility cross-functional teams and partner with Business stakeholders to formulate strategic plans and communicate project statuses to senior leadership. Interns are fully immersed in our culture and given significant project work. Interns demonstrate their skills to support valuable projects across many of United’s departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as Associate Project Manager on multiple high-level projects.
  • Work on projects in conjunction with business teams to find opportunities for improvement, develop project plans, define project landmarks, and track ongoing status.
  • Implement a prioritized portfolio of cross-divisional projects, from the idea and analysis stage, through development, testing, and roll-out/implementation.
  • Update leadership and key stakeholders on initiatives - preparing and delivering presentations and status report-outs on a regular basis.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with both internal and external collaborators.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed:

  • A current undergraduate student graduating in Dec. 2025 or Spring 2026, demonstrating strong academic performance
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office - particularly PowerPoint and Excel
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups
  • Detail and process-oriented
  • Strong relationship-building and problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others

Additional Information:

  • The position will be hybrid based in Chicago, IL
  • The intern duration is 12 weeks over the Summer of 2025
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship now and in the future
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
