This year, We are offering two scholarships to Indigenous students to support and assist in development of their future within the mining industry. 

This scholarship is open to students of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent who are undertaking their 2nd or 3rd year of study of single degree in the following disciplines: 

  • Engineering (mining, mechanical, electrical, civil, geotechnical or mechatronics) 
  • Surveying 
  • Geology
  • Health and safety
  • Accounting 

As part of this scholarship, selected candidates will receive two instalments (2 x $4,000) at completion of each semester. In addition, you will have the opportunity to build rapport and create relationships within the industry, receive a placement for our vacation program and be exposed to a range of mining projects. Successful completion of the program also provides you with the opportunity to be considered for a permanent role with Thiess as part of our Graduate Program. 

About you 

  • Be a current fulltime, undergraduate student in your second year (or later) studying a degree course in mining engineering at a recognised university in Australia 
  • Proven to be maintaining a GPA of 4.5 or higher
  • Available to complete a 12-week vacation work placement with Thiess (prior to graduation)
  • Able to demonstrate commitment to Thiess’ shared group principles of Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Delivery
  • Free from a bond or commitment to any other employer
