At Jacobs, we push the limits of what’s possible to make the world smarter, more connected and more sustainable. In our transport work, that means designing innovative solutions to move people and goods safely and efficiently across the globe. From rail systems mobilising accessible transit, to ports linking land and sea – when it comes to connecting the people and places of tomorrow, the future of transport depends on us.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Bridge Engineer to join our Auckland Transport Structures team in 2022. You'll work alongside our Senior Engineers providing meaningful input on transport projects – and we’ll mentor you each step of the way to ensure you’re set up for success.  We currently have a strong pipeline of interesting projects, including large national transport infrastructure projects for key transportation clients in New Zealand. You would become involved in the design of a variety of bridges and civil structures associated with these projects, working within dedicated and experienced teams.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Ideally, you’ll hold a university degree in Civil/Structural Engineering and you possess a keen interest in the Transport sector. This is a unique role that requires applicants to hold New Zealand work rights. Bring your curiosity, collaborative spirit and strong communication skills, and we’ll help you grow, pursue and fulfil what drives you – so we can make big impacts on the world, together.

Our Graduate Program

As a Graduate at Jacobs, you’ll be a valued member of our team from Day 1 and work on real projects, bids and tenders from the get-go. Under the guidance and mentorship of our experts and industry leaders, you’ll be equipped with the skills and knowledge to deliver the boldest solutions for the extraordinary and the everyday. From gaining hands-on experience to participating in networking events and structured learning sessions, you’ll find new and inventive ways to help our clients make the world a better place.

We see graduates as the future leaders of our business, which is why we’re delighted to have received the AFR’s Top 100 Graduate Employers award for ‘Most Popular Engineering & Resources Employer’ in 2021! Our teams offer a supportive environment to help you to learn, grow and excel. No matter what drives you, you’ll discover how you can cultivate, nurture and achieve your goals – all at a single global company.

Jacobs. A world where you can.

You’ll uncover flexible working arrangements, benefits and opportunities to do good too – from participating in our global giving and volunteering program to delivering ever more innovative and sustainable solutions for clients.

Gets to design stuff from the start. If you like project management-type of work -go for it. Personally, I prefer design, so I let my team leader know that. Whenever something interesting comes up, he lets me know and checks if I might be interested in being involved.

Pros and cons of working at Jacobs Australia

Pros

  • The flexibility of being able to work from home and in the office. Allows for the benefits of working in an environment that allows you to engage with life outside of work that was unavailable previously while also gaining the benefits of learning from senior staff.

  • Global network, an opportunity to work on large-scale projects, competitive pay and lots of fieldwork.

  • The culture and work environment. The company makes you feel like you are genuinely a part of something greater and all employees are valued and given opportunities for their careers to develop in a multitude of ways.

  • Get to work on major projects that make a difference to surrounding communities

  • Growth prospects, I am consistently guided on the best ways to grow and develop in my role. I have involvement in a variety of projects of different sizes with great autonomy, allowing me to learn quickly.

Cons

    • IT support is slow

    • As a smaller office in a large company, it often feels like we are left out from the rest of the company and that there can be a disconnect at times.

    • Hot desking - would be nice to have designated areas for the teams (as in the 10 desks here are all for X team)

    • Unpredictability of hours during projects however this is the nature of consulting.

    • A lot of work
