Gets to design stuff from the start. If you like project management-type of work -go for it. Personally, I prefer design, so I let my team leader know that. Whenever something interesting comes up, he lets me know and checks if I might be interested in being involved.

Pros and cons of working at Jacobs Australia

Pros

  • The flexibility of being able to work from home and in the office. Allows for the benefits of working in an environment that allows you to engage with life outside of work that was unavailable previously while also gaining the benefits of learning from senior staff.

  • Global network, an opportunity to work on large-scale projects, competitive pay and lots of fieldwork.

  • The culture and work environment. The company makes you feel like you are genuinely a part of something greater and all employees are valued and given opportunities for their careers to develop in a multitude of ways.

  • Get to work on major projects that make a difference to surrounding communities

  • Growth prospects, I am consistently guided on the best ways to grow and develop in my role. I have involvement in a variety of projects of different sizes with great autonomy, allowing me to learn quickly.

Cons

    • IT support is slow

    • As a smaller office in a large company, it often feels like we are left out from the rest of the company and that there can be a disconnect at times.

    • Hot desking - would be nice to have designated areas for the teams (as in the 10 desks here are all for X team)

    • Unpredictability of hours during projects however this is the nature of consulting.

    • A lot of work
