Your role

About the team:

  • The coastal team has an excellent track record in delivering coastal policy, management, and design projects both within the UK and internationally.
  • It sits on several coastal frameworks and also undertakes a range of work for private-sector clients.
  • It provides the complete coastal and marine service from front-end feasibility projects, hydraulic modeling, environmental coastal management, climate adaptation, business case, and economic appraisal, and outline and detailed design of coastal structures, harbors, marinas, and developments.

Here’s what you’ll help with:

  • Undertake numerical analysis including the use of computer-based programs to assist with the study of potable, surface, and wastewater system
  • Undertake technical and feasibility studies to appraise the practicability of alternative solutions in aspects such as potable water, foul water, surface water, and attenuation requirements, including appropriate calculations
  • Undertake structural analysis and design such as determination of the design situation and load cases, including calculation and use of analysis software
  • Produce designs of water infrastructure such as pump systems and pipe networks with attenuation to safety in design, such as creating a Designer’s Risk Assessment document
  • Produce sketches, check and consolidate final working drawings created by Technicians
  • Keep up-to-date with developments in regulatory legislation and guidelines that may affect design work
  • Working with other team members to undertake technical work, site work, and project management
  • Opportunities for working on site and site visits, to develop a wider understanding of how designs are implemented

About you

Here’s what Aecom is looking for:

  • Studying toward a BEng in Civil or Civil and Environmental Engineering Degree
  • Water-related modules would be an advantage
  • Enthusiastic, hard-working, technically proficient, with ambition and drive.
  • Basic computer skills are essential (Word/Excel) and good report-writing skills are beneficial.
  • Demonstrable interest in water engineering
  • Communicate effectively to internal and external clients, both verbally & in writing.
  • Structure & prioritize work effectively through close cooperation with the team as a whole.
  • Ability to work independently without losing initiative & focus.

Training & development

You will join the team over the summer or for a longer-term industrial placement typically 6-12 months. This program will allow you to develop your technical and industry knowledge and experience the AECOM culture. You will work alongside experienced engineers as you develop these skills within a positive culture where learning and development are actively supported and promoted.

Career progression

You will acquire practical, real-world experience that will prepare you for a successful future career. It also allows you to demonstrate your skills and attributes and potentially obtain a permanent graduate position in the development program upon graduation.
